Reverse Outline

Nick Franze, Katherine Salerno,Charles Sigwarth, Francisco Elizalde

What was the writer’s thesis?
The final two sentences of the introduction outline the writer’s “freakin’ point , when he says ,”But even the most garbled and indecipherable of them are saying something, and what they have to say is, in terms of social status, a bummer. See, the e-blurt, like so many modes of personal expression, is all about power.”(p. 58).

This idea about a lack of reverence for proper English grammar in professional correspondences communicating power differences and social elitism is carried throughout the piece.

What were their main points?

-I am busier than you, and therefore more powerful.

-I am hip, and speak in cool text speak.

-It isn’t MY job to check my spelling and grammar, that’s the job of the lesser.

Where is the thesis repeated?

At the very end of the piece, he revisits his thesis when he states, “Which only confirms what I’ve always felt about power; that the people who really understand it don’t say anything at all.”(p.69).
